Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to every scheduled appointment.

The Basics

Service area

Service is tiered, based in Rising Fawn / Lookout Mountain and covering the surrounding region — Dade, Walker and Catoosa counties in Georgia and Hamilton County in Tennessee. The map and town list on the Service Area page are approximate; if your address is near a boundary, ask and I will tell you.

What I do not service

I do not take on the following:

  • LG Kitchen Products
  • Kenmore Elite Kitchen Products
  • Boutique or Luxury Appliances (SubZero, Wolf, Gaggenau, Thermador, Viking, Liebherr, Miele, Fisher & Paykel, Bosch, etc.)
  • Amazon Brands (Midea, Hisense, Summit, Equator, Forno, Insignia, Hamilton Beach, Black&Decker, etc.)
  • Built In Appliances
  • Gas Dryers / Ovens
  • Microwave Ovens
  • RV, Commercial or Medical Grade Appliances
  • Countertop Appliances (i.e. mixers, processors)
  • Vacuum Cleaners
  • Dehumidifiers / AC Units
  • Household Fixtures (i.e. ceiling fans, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures or leaks)

Bosch dishwashers are the one exception to that list — those I do service.

Unlisted services and brands are considered on a case-by-case basis — you are always welcome to ask.

Reaching Me and Scheduling

Business hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00. Returning customers should call or text to schedule. New customers are welcome to call or text, or are welcome to proceed with filling out the New Customer Intake Form.

Because this is a one-man operation, a call during business hours that goes unanswered means I am with another customer. Please do leave a voicemail and I will return your call. If you do not leave a voicemail, please do not expect a call back.

All appointments are subject to availability and to confirmation by me. Emergency, after-hours and weekend service is not generally available. You are still welcome to call and ask — it is considered case by case.

The Technicals

If you contract with Alpha Appliance Service to do work for you (The “Customer”), the following terms and conditions (“General Terms and Conditions of Service”) will apply to the services we perform, the replacement parts, or other goods we provide. It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with these General Terms and Conditions of Service, prior to allowing our technician to commence work. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. By scheduling a Service Call, confirming an appointment, approving a repair, or allowing the technician to commence service constitutes acceptance of all terms and conditions detailed herein.

#1 Payment and Conditions of Service Provision

It is the responsibility of The Customer to familiarize themselves with terms of service at time of scheduling and prior to allowing the technician to commence provision of service. Scheduling of service with Alpha Appliance Service implies full acceptance of terms and conditions as detailed, as does allowing the technician to commence service. Acting either for yourself or for the party listed on electronic or paper work order, you agree to pay all the following where applicable: any unpaid balance upon completion, interest and service charges on any past due balance, a service fee if your check or credit card is not honored by the bank, necessary handling and return charges if your work order is canceled in an untimely fashion, and any necessary collection costs, including attorney's fees.

Payment is due on provision of service unless terms have been agreed or other previous arrangements have been made.

Payments can be made with Cash, Check, or most major Credit/Debit Cards

- Technicians do NOT carry cash to make change so please have exact change. Overages are either applied to additional service where applicable, or applied as a tip.

- Credit/Debit Card transactions do carry a 5% processing fee.

- Electronic payments such as Zelle, Venmo, and CashApp are not accepted

~ Ask about payment in Bitcoin or Ethereum

#2 Cancellation of Service

When scheduling service with Alpha Appliance Service, time is taken out of the day to drive to your location and service your product. When you forget, cancel, or change your appointment without giving enough notice, we miss the opportunity to fill that appointment time, which in turn results in a loss of revenue which cannot be recovered. We also incur shipping and handling costs in addition to any parts purchased to complete a Customer approved repair. You agree to pay these shipping and handling costs as well as the cost of the parts if they are nonreturnable. A restocking fee will apply to parts that are returnable.

Not being available for the entirety of the Appointment Window scheduled/agreed to counts as a cancellation.

Consequently, Alpha Appliance Service reserves the right to charge an amount up to or equal to 100% of the Service Call amount for any appointment missed, canceled, or changed without 24 hours’ notice or otherwise mutually agreed.

#3 Service Call

For the Service Call (also known as “Diagnostic Call or Inspection Call”, the appliance must be installed and accessible to the service technician. Accessibility is defined as the ability to pull the appliance 2 feet away from the wall so that the technician is able to disassemble and reassemble the appliance, and all contents of appliance must be removed prior to technician's arrival. Stacked Dryers/Washers may need to be un-stacked prior to appointment.

Alpha Appliance Service does not “preorder” parts from telephone descriptions of the problem, or service disassembled machines.

Alpha Appliance Service does not Diagnose machines or “prediagnose” problems over the telephone. This can only ever leave things in the realm of speculation without measurements. While technical aspects about The Customer’s problem may be discussed while scheduling, this is ultimately only to determine eligibility of service for scheduling purposes. Alpha Appliance Service does not preemptively order parts for a machine that an inspection has not been performed on, for a multitude of reasons.

Additionally, if your machine is in pieces from a DIY project, it needs to be fully reassembled and hooked up for testing prior to the appointment time.

The Service Call fee includes the trip to The Customer’s service address, the initial inspection, diagnosis, and estimate for repair. The Service Call fee DOES NOT cover any part of the repair and is NOT refundable NOR applied to the cost of a repair. Repair charges are separate from Service Call charges.

Based on The Customer’s description of the issue, a diagnostic process will take place with the unit to determine what repair(s) will be necessary to resolve the issue(s) reported. Due to the complexity of many appliances there can be additional underlying problems which cannot be determined until an “initial repair” is made. This is referred to as Sequential Diagnosis. Please see #9 Labor Warranty.

If Parts are unavailable once a Diagnosis has been performed, this information will be provided to the customer. If the Part is on Backorder, an offer will be made to arrange to order the part and wait on it. If the part is Discontinued or otherwise No Longer Available (N/L/A), the service will have to be concluded, due to the part unavailability. This does not constitute a refund for service.

If The Customer’s complaint cannot be duplicated on the unit, The Customer will still be responsible for the Service Call fee. If there is no problem present at the time of inspection, it will be considered as a diagnosis of “No problem found at this time” or “Operating properly”. Intermittent problems are not always apparent and cannot always be traced. The only time such a problem can be traced is when the problem actually presents itself, and can be measured. Despite this, some tentative figures may be provided for possible repairs, but these cannot be taken as 100% necessary or recommended repairs, until a problem or symptom can be reproduced and definitively measured.

The Service Call is not warrantied against intermittent problems. The technician will do everything reasonably possible to reproduce the issue as described by the customer. If unable to do so, the customer will be given an opportunity to reproduce the problem. If the problem cannot be reproduced, the Service Call will be concluded. If an additional trip is necessary to identify the problem, another Service Call charge would apply.

If the problem is caused, or possibly caused by a source other than the appliance itself (failed electrical outlet, a problem with home’s water pressure, a clogged vent, etc.), the technician may recommend an examination by an outside trade contractor to confirm or rule out the possible cause or problem. The Customer is fully responsible for any expenses, cost and payment for any examinations or services performed by outside trade contractors. The Customer will still be responsible to pay Alpha Appliance Service the Service Call fee for the diagnosis and recommendation.

In the case access to the unit is not provided by The Customer (as described above), additional fees will apply.

Customers who have incorrectly identified their appliance as a Brand we service but do not, and proceeded with scheduling a Service Call, we reserve the right to charge an amount up to or equal to 100% of the Service Call amount due to loss of revenue.

#4 Safety and Liability

For the safety of our clients, their property, their family members and our staff, all children and pets must be kenneled or behind a closed door away from the service area, and the path out to the technician’s van, prior to the technician’s arrival. Yard animals must be restrained to allow entry/exit to work site. Work area must remain free of hindrance or obstruction for the duration of the appointment, to include cooking, working, or cleaning activities in or around the appliance in service.

Alpha Appliance Service does not accept responsibility or liability for unsecured children, animals or persons that cause distraction or interruption to the technician’s work that may result in harm or injury to either or both the client or the technician.

Should the technician find these conditions are not met upon arrival at the appointment, work will be halted, and the failure to meet Terms & Conditions will be documented on The Customer’s invoice and billed the full cost of the Service Call for loss of revenue.

When scheduling, this item is specifically bulleted on your signed agreement in short form and will not be rescinded.

If you are unable to provide a smoke-free work environment, please do not schedule service with Alpha Appliance Service. Please extinguish all smoking material 30 minutes prior to arrival and maintain a smoke-free work environment for the technician.

Should the technician find these conditions are not met upon arrival at the appointment, work will be halted, the opportunity will be given to correct the situation, then the failure to meet Terms & Conditions will be documented on The Customer’s invoice and billed the full cost of the Service Call for loss of revenue.

When scheduling, this item is specifically bulleted on your signed agreement in short form and will not be rescinded.

#5 Multiple Appliances

Alpha Appliance Service often makes appointments for Customers with multiple appliances. At Alpha Appliance Service’s discretion, a discounted Service Call fee will be charged for each additional appliance when scheduled together. Other than this discounted Service Call fee, all other terms of our Service Call apply. Our technicians CANNOT inspect, check, or “look at” any appliance without first documenting the appliance in our records and charging the appropriate Service Call fee.

This may only be added if their daily scheduled appointments allow for the additional time to do so.

#6 Repairs

Repair charges are separate from Service Call fees. Repair estimates and charges are based on the job. Repair estimates are NOT based on an hourly rate. They are based on many factors including complexity, difficulty, risk, tools, training, supplies required, and many other factors. Repairs will be estimated and quoted, and approved by The Customer, before any repairs will be completed. Estimates typically do not go up after being quoted, unless something unforeseeable comes up during the repair, that warrants the need to stop and reassess.

Our technicians cannot change or modify any previously agreed upon charges after service is rendered. They can add charges if additional services are requested or required. In case access to the unit is not provided by The Customer, additional fees may apply for the work performed to access the unit.

Repairs will typically carry a warranty as outlined by #9 Repair Labor Warranty and #10 Parts Warranty

#7 Sealed Systems

A Sealed System is a vacuum sealed refrigerant system. This includes the compressor, condenser coil, evaporator coil, filter drier, valves, copper and aluminum tubing, and refrigerant. Sealed systems are very complex and precise. It is always possible that some or all failures in a sealed system will not be readily apparent or repairable. Micro leaks or blockages may be so small they are undetectable and only affect the appliance over time. Failures may also be in locations of the appliance that are unrepairable such as refrigerant leaks within the appliances’ outer walls. It is also possible that the refrigerant used in the appliance is no longer available to purchase. Sealed system repairs are expensive, require specialty tools and parts, and are suitable only for very high end appliance repair. As Alpha Appliance Service does not service high end appliances (ie, SubZero, Wolf, Gaggenau, Thermador, Viking, Liebherr, Miele, Fisher & Paykel, Bosch), it does not offer this service and does not recommend it for most of the box-store brands.

#8 Standard Appliance Installation

Standard Appliance Installation services and charges cover the removal of existing appliance from its place and/or installation of an appliance into the same place, without the need to disassemble, disturb, remove, alter, or uninstall other appliances, cabinetry, countertops, flooring, doors, doorways, or any other fixture or object. Standard Appliance Installation services and charges assume the installation area is easily accessible and does not require special services, effort, or additional technicians to deliver, remove, or install any appliance. In the event that the appliance installation requires additional services, Alpha Appliance Service will, at its discretion, perform the services at additional charges or choose not to perform the appliance installation.

Standard Appliance Installation services and charges do not cover, and Alpha Appliance Service does not provide, modification or repair of gas, water valves, drains, power receptacles, electrical junction boxes, and dryer vents. It is the responsibility of The Customer to ensure systems for the supply of gas, water, electrical, drainage, or ventilation systems to facilitate cooling and/or safe operation of equipment installed. We assume and accept that the area and systems or services which have been provided to accommodate the appliance installation have been prepared to conform to the needs of the appliance and meet all applicable regulatory requirements and codes. We do not verify that correct ventilation, electrical, water supply, water drainage requirements have been met specific to the appliance installed. It is The Customer’s responsibility to make sure all systems meet local building codes, and are available to facilitate installation using standard materials associated with the installation of that type of appliance.

Removal of a replaced unit is the responsibility of The Customer unless otherwise agreed upon.

#9 Repair Labor Warranty

REPAIR LABOR WARRANTY DOES NOT APPLY TO DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE CALL

LABOR CHARGES ARE NONREFUNDABLE ONCE SERVICE HAS BEEN RENDERED

REPAIR LABOR ONLY WARRANTIED FOR 7 DAYS

Alpha Appliance Service offers a 30 day “Call-Back” period on our Repairs. In the case a machine exhibits symptoms of a failure after repair, Alpha Appliance Service will schedule a re-inspection to determine if the problem is related to the Initial Repair, and otherwise what is causing the problem from that point. If the problem found is related to the Initial Repair, and able to be corrected with further adjustment of what’s there, additional correction and/or repair will be made immediately, free of charge.

If any newly replaced part/s, installed by Alpha Appliance Service, have failed after a repair:

- Re-inspection free within 30 days of Repair

- Parts Covered for Manufacturer’s warranty period (90 Days/1 year)

- Labor Warrantied for 7 Days

All appliance repair warranty work honored 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. No warranty work honored Saturdays, Sundays or Holidays.

If re-inspection exposes additional or underlying issues that are creating similar or new conditions (such as intolerance of new parts in old machines, damage from excessive vibration, excessive exposure to moisture, etc.), Alpha Appliance Service will provide a second Diagnosis at the time of inspection and prepare a second Estimate (within 24 hours) to repair the newly revealed condition(s). This estimate will be provided free of charge. As a new condition, and not a fault in the Initial Repair, The Customer would be responsible for any additional Repair charges to move forward.

Where the re-inspection shows the problem is not related to the Initial Repair, Alpha Appliance Service holds the right to, and may in some cases, bill the inspection at the regular Service Call rate. It will be completely up to The Customer to determine whether further repair will be cost effective.

Repair / Labor Warranty Shall Be Void:

• If additional outside work or inspections are performed or damage is caused by another party.

• If The Customer chooses not to replace all recommended parts as diagnosed.

• Installation Labor to install parts diagnosed and/or provided by The Customer or a third party.

#10 Parts Warranty

PARTS ARE NONRETURNABLE/NONREFUNDABLE ONCE INSTALLED

Parts carry the manufacturer's warranty, which is usually 90 days or 1 year, dependent on manufacturer.

Please Note: Parts Manufacturers warranty only covers direct replacement of defective part(s). They do not, as a standard, provide any reimbursement for shipping costs incurred to obtain defective part, additional shipping costs to obtain direct replacement part, or labor costs to uninstall and reinstall defective parts. This lack of consideration places an undue burden on both The Customer and the appliance repair company who has purchased the parts on behalf of The Customer. Alpha Appliance Service does not automatically assume this liability.

Parts purchased by Alpha Appliance Service through trusted vendors are visually inspected for damage and a Factory Seal on the box upon arrival, prior to dispatch to a Customer’s property.

Not all parts can be visually verified to be without defect (as in electronic components such as control boards or faulty wiring). Some defective parts will only be discovered upon installation of the product and subsequent testing proves the part is not generating the required output to operate the machine.

In these circumstances, The Customer will be offered two choices:

1 • The Customer may pay for the part and take advantage of the Manufacturer’s warranty through Alpha Appliance Service. The part will be returned as necessary, and re-ordered, potentially on The Customer’s behalf, and a return trip will be scheduled to install the new part.

As Alpha Appliance Service is not responsible for defects in manufacturing, it assumes no responsibility in the return shipping costs nor the labor costs involved in replacing said defective part.

These terms are also applied to Manufacturer’s Warranty that extend to a full year.

Since these parts are subject to availability from the manufacturer, we cannot guarantee the time it will take to obtain them. If the manufacturer, for any reason, does not honor their warranty, The Customer is responsible for the cost of these parts. In no event will shipping or handling fees be refunded. We cannot return certain electrical or special order parts.

2 • If The Customer chooses not to pay for the defective part upon site testing, the part will be removed from the machine and returned to the vendor in order that Alpha Appliance Service may seek to recoup some of its lost initial investment in The Customer’s repair job. The Part will be removed from Invoiced charges.

Labor charges for the Repair Call will not be waived due to Manufacturer's Defect and are the responsibility of The Customer.

Part Warranty does not cover:

- Failure due to secondary issue

- Customer misuse or mishandling of the machine

- The Customer working on unit themselves

- Varmint damage (i.e. mouse or bug damage)

- Lightning strike, or other electrical surging

- Other external influence (i.e. fire, flood)

- Any part supplied by The Customer

If The Customer cancels repair appointment after an estimate has been approved and parts have already been ordered, a restocking fee will be billed.

#11 Intermittent Condition

There is absolutely no labor warranty on any unit with an intermittent problem. Since the problem is not always apparent, it cannot necessarily be traced. The only time such a problem can be traced is when the problem is reproducible, and can be measured and documented.

#12 Manufacturer Warranty / Service Contract / Extended Warranty

Alpha Appliance Service has no business relationship with any Manufacturer, Service Contract Company, or Extended Warranty Provider.

Customers that choose to employ Alpha Appliance Service for their repair work, expecting reimbursement from any of these entities agrees and confirms that repair work will be paid for personally by The Customer when service is rendered.

It is The Customer’s responsibility to seek any payment or reimbursement from the Manufacturer’s Warranty, Service Contract, or Extended Warranty Provider with Alpha Appliance Service's usual and customary Invoice to The Customer, and with no further obligation, responsibility or liability to provide further documentation, phone calls or other interactions with said Provider on the part of Alpha Appliance Service.

#13 Limitation of Liability

In the event inspections or repairs cannot be performed, are delayed for any reason, or are otherwise not successful, our liability for damages including consequential damages is limited to the amount actually paid by The Customer. Alpha Appliance Service is not responsible or liable for any lost or perished refrigerated goods, damage from leaks, or damage otherwise caused by the use or operation of the machine, repaired or not.

~ Damage Waivers ~

It is the responsibility of The Customer to familiarize themselves with waivers we have in place surrounding the provision of any services we provide. These waivers are applicable for all work performed and are assumed and accepted once you allow our technician to commence provision of service.

#14 Waiver of Damages to Appliance

When Inspecting or Repairing Defective Appliances You understand there are inherent risks in such acts. There is risk of damage to the machine itself, and to the failed part(s) and/or surrounding parts. Rust, corrosion, stripped screws, intolerance of new parts in old machines and other issues caused by normal wear and tear may make usual disassembly and inspection of the appliance impossible. Seized or partially failing parts may fail completely upon disassembly, testing, or inspection. In these situations surrounding parts can fail or be inadvertently damaged. Excepting for cases of gross, clearly proven, and explicitly identifiable carelessness by the technician, you promise to hold harmless Alpha Appliance Service, its principals, agents and employees from any and all damages, harms or liability that may result from such an occurrence. You promise to hold faultless, both the technician and Alpha Appliance Service, from liability associated with any such damages as may occur in connection with these acts.

#15 Waiver of Damages When Moving Appliance

You understand there is inherent risk in such movement. There is risk of damage to the machine itself, and to areas surrounding its installation, including but not limited to flooring, cabinetry and counter tops. Excepting for cases of gross, clearly proven, and explicitly identifiable carelessness by the technician, you promise to hold harmless Alpha Appliance Service, its principals, agents and employees from any and all damages, harms or liability that may result from such an occurrence. You acknowledge the technician is not required to move the appliance. In exchange for his willingness to do so, you promise to hold faultless, both the technician and Alpha Appliance Service from liability associated with any such damage as may occur in connection with this movement.

#16 Waiver of Damages from Electrical Issues

You understand that electrical parts and systems consists of a multiplicity of complex components, any of which can fail without warning, and that any effort to service and/or repair same carries inherent risk. Diagnoses are not always straightforward, and, even when carefully performed, repair and/or service work may involve imperfections that result in failure of the machinery to perform as intended. A large number of electrical issues can damage components. Some examples are lightning, power surges, incorrect or deficient wiring, fluctuations, and other component failures.

In some cases with repair, definitively failed parts may be replaced with new parts, and upon retesting, an underlying failed component can cause further damage to the machine. While unfortunate, these situations fall into “Sequential Diagnosis” category, where further repair estimate will be provided

Excepting for cases of gross, clearly proven, and explicitly identifiable carelessness by the technician, you promise to hold harmless Alpha Appliance Service, its principals, agents and employees from any and all damages, harms or liability that may result from such an occurrence. You acknowledge that electrical damage can happen at any time and for reasons that often cannot be traced or proven. You agree all such risks are your own alone, and you agree to hold harmless and exempt from liability Alpha Appliance Service, its agents and employees from such responsibility. By allowing the technician to commence work, you explicitly waive the right to any contrary claim.

#17 Waiver of Damages When Working with Water

You understand the machinery that’s being worked on is connected with the building’s plumbing system, and whenever any machinery is so connected, there is an inherent risk that component failure, imperfect connections and/or other faults could result in unintended leakage and/or flooding within the building, causing significant and sometimes catastrophic damage. Excepting for cases of gross, clearly proven, and explicitly identifiable carelessness by the technician, you promise to hold harmless Alpha Appliance Service, its principals, agents and employees from damages, harms or liability that may result from such an occurrence. By allowing the technician to commence work, you explicitly waive the right to any contrary claim.

#18 Waiver of Damages from Failed Cooling

You understand that, like any machinery, refrigeration equipment consists of a multiplicity of complex components, any of which can fail without warning, and that any effort to service and/or repair same carries inherent risk. Diagnoses are not always straightforward, and, even when carefully performed, repair and/or service work may involve imperfections that result in failure of the machinery to perform as intended. Such failures may lead to food spoilage, discomfort, inconvenience, and (particularly in commercial contexts) even loss of revenue as associated with canceled or failed events, inability to service customers, etc. Excepting for cases of gross, clearly proven, and explicitly identifiable carelessness by the technician, you promise to hold harmless Alpha Appliance Service, its principals, agents and employees from any and all damages, harms or liability that may result from such an occurrence. You acknowledge that, by undertaking to service and/or repair your equipment, Alpha Appliance Service is not accepting responsibility for any such risks. You agree all such risks are your own (and/or your company’s) alone, and you agree to hold harmless and exempt from liability Alpha Appliance Service, its agents and employees from such harms. By allowing the technician to commence work, you explicitly waive the right to any contrary claim.

#19 Waiver of Damages from Lifting Glass Cook Top from Counter Tops

You understand that, in lifting a glass/ceramic cook top surface to access components below it, there is an inherent risk of breakage. The machine is often attached with strong adhesive, and it is not always possible to achieve separation without the surface fracturing. While expecting the technician to exercise every due level of care, you nevertheless recognize that the Technician and Alpha Appliance Service explicitly refrain from accepting any responsibility for these risks. Excepting for cases of gross, clearly proven, and explicitly identifiable carelessness by the technician, you promise to hold harmless Alpha Appliance Service, its principals, agents and employees from damages, harms or liability that may result from such an occurrence. You agree all such risks are your alone, and you agree to hold harmless and exempt from liability Alpha Appliance Service, its agents and employees from any and all such responsibility. By allowing the technician to commence work, you explicitly waive the right to any contrary claim.

Final Statement

Having been advised and understanding the service technician will be as careful as possible in undertaking the repairs, I hereby release Alpha Appliance Service, its successors in interest; its past, present, and future owners, officers, directors, agents, employees, technicians, and insurers, of any and all liability, actual, express and implied, of damages, damage costs or expenses of any kind arising out of and in the course of Alpha Appliance Service, its agents or employees-under-training to repair any or all of your appliances, excepting for cases of gross, clearly proven, and explicitly identifiable carelessness by the technician.
